Photo Diary: Bathing Elephants in Bali
Updated: Apr 7, 2022
On one of the most memorable days of our Bali trip we woke up early and were transported to the lush jungle of Taro where elephants roam happily.

We arrived just in time for the elephant’s early morning bath. In my wildest dreams I never imagined I’d get the chance to be so up close and personal to a creature this immense and incredible.
First we fed them some of their favorite foods: bamboo shoots, while we sprayed and scrubbed away.

We had loads of time to have individual turns meeting, washing and spending time with the elephants.
And of course taking a few elephant selfies…

Afterwards, we watched as the elephants meandered into their bathing pond and splashed around while we indulged on a huge buffet breakfast complete with eggs, croissants, sausages and fresh fruit.
When the elephants were done with their bath we fed them their most favorite treats: fruit salads! Bananas, pineapple slices, melon, apples… fruits of all kinds make them smile.

All of the elephants seemed so joyful and well-cared for. You can tell if an elephant is in a good mood or not by if it wiggles its ears back and forth and while we were feeding them their fruit salads their ears were wagging away.

Our morning spent caring for and learning about the elephants was unforgettable. These creatures are so friendly, beautiful and intuitive and this was definitely a once in a life time experience.
